Hands-Free Voting Kiosk
Biometric registration and a ballot you cast with your face and your hand.
A biometric voter registration desk and a voting kiosk with no keyboard and no mouse, built around Nigeria's actual election structure. You pick a language (English, Yoruba, Igbo or Hausa), look at the camera, point at the party you want, hold for a second, confirm, and move to the next office. A full review screen comes before anything is submitted.
Face recognition and hand tracking do the input. Every voice prompt is pre-rendered rather than synthesised on demand, which means the kiosk needs no internet connection at any point during voting.
This is a prototype and not election infrastructure, and it is not affiliated with INEC. Building it was a way to think hard about ballot secrecy, accessibility, language and lighting, and about how easily you can build something that looks impressive and still fails the people who need it most.
How it is built
- No keyboard and no mouse: registration and voting run on face recognition and hand tracking alone.
- Four languages at the point of use, chosen by the voter before anything else happens.
- Voice prompts pre-rendered, so the kiosk is fully offline while a vote is being cast.
- A review screen before submission, with each office voted separately.
- Built as a prototype to interrogate ballot secrecy and accessibility, not as a product to sell to anyone.
